18th C. American Wood & Glass Chippendale Mirror 25.5″H x 14.5″W
$575.00
North America, USA, circa late 18th. A gorgeous Federal period, Chippendale mahogany mirror with its original glass aged to a fantastic surface. The wooden sides of the mirror are carved into elegant, intricate scrolls and flames that form a handsome border around the large, rectangular mirror. Visitors to Colonial Williamsburg will likely have seen a mirror of this style, as it was popular amongst wealthier colonists and early Americans. The American Chippendale style, originating from London cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale in the mid-1700s, was elegant and conservative compared to styles popular in Great Britain during the same time period.
