(SOLD) Ancient Pottery Byzantine Period Oil Lamp with Menorah, Jerusalem 600 A.D.

A wonderful piece of ancient pottery, an oil lamp, excavated from an archeological dig in Jerusalem. Originally sold and exported by The Baidun Shop (Antiquities of the Holy Land) in Jerusalem.

Comes with the the Certificate of Authenticity certifying by the Baidun Shop as being from the Byzantine Period approximately 600 A.D.

In overall good condition, The spout is decorated with a stylized menorah: six candles flanking central pole, the spout of the lamp acts as the 7th candle when lit. Because most Jewish families during this time could not afford an actual menorah in their home, these menorah oil lamps were the closest thing. Ref: Cf. Bussiere & Rivel, La Collection Rivel. (2012), p. 274-5, no. 326 and Bailey BM III, pl. 60, Q2332 for parallels.
