A rare original James Dooley (with label intact) leather trunk / valise for boat, steamship, stagecoach or train traveling! Before you jump in your time machine and travel back to the 1800’s you better bring with you a travel trunk like this.  Leather over wood frame with very intricate geometric leather tooling.  An Excelsior lock with patent from 1864. No key – and lock is damaged from someone breaking in and stealing the gold many years ago.

Inside in good antique shape with some repairs and new nails and staples.  Has a top compartment that latches under the lid with two leather handles metal slides, when lowered it has three iron spin latches to open up a lid for storage of smaller items.  Interior has a canvas envelope mounted to compartment and more detail and decoration in blue.

A great piece showing lots of history and use, offers great warmth beauty and age in its color. A versatile decorator accent for home or office or retail storefront.  Great for the timber, log, ranch, country estate or cabin or Brooklyn crash pad.
