(SOLD) Primitive Folk Art Carved Articulated 2pc Dance Horse

Very Early Twentieth Century Primitive Mexican Folk Art Carved Wood Articulated Horse Sculpture.

Apparently used in in ceremonies and festivals. It has two parts – the front half to be attached by rope to the front of the dancer, the rear half attached to the back of the dancer. Rare. It appears it has been modified for display by the addition of a steel spike mounted to the front and a receiving sleeve inset to the rear of the horse – or perhaps this was how it was worn as part of a costume, perhaps the dancer wore a chest piece that this would insert to keeping it level and the ropes holding it to the dancer.
