Folk art found object and mixed media sculpture by David E Bell (1921-2006). Titled “The Fickle Finger of Fate”. Consisting of a found object antique box with inset carved cover panel that has an antique glove and tassle mounted to front.  Sliding the panel up reveals the interior two compartment section lined with David’s signature abstract needlepoint work. Lower compartment has a cutout of Abraham Lincoln, larger upper section consists of a wooden model articulating hand reaching for a metal model revolver style hand gun.  Signed with title and date of Feb 2003 on back.

This piece is by late designer David E. Bell of Washington, CT. David was always an artist, but first was an actor on stage in NYC, and then head of the Bloomingdale’s Interior Design dept in the 60’s-70’s and then a principle in the design firm Design Multiples in the 80’s. This piece is from his estate in Washington, CT.
